The Jr. Shark Summer Swim Team is sponsored by the City of St. George and operated by the Dixie Aquatics Race Team (DART).  The team is known as the Jr. Sharks simply to distinguish it from the year round swim team known as the Sharks.  Participating on a summer swim team is a great way to make friends, get in shape, learn good swimming technique in all four strokes, and compete in a friendly environment.  The following provides some basic information:

  • Team eligibility: For swimmers of all skill levels from expert to beginner so long as they can swim 25 yards (any stroke, even if it's doggy paddle).  We'll teach them the swim-strokes if they haven't already learned them.
  • We will have at least four swim meets, including a championship swim meet at the end of the season with other teams from Cedar City, Hurricane, St. George, Kanab, Fredonia and Mesquite
  • $130 Registration Fee per swimmer (with $10 discount for each additional family member)
  • Cap and T-Shirt are included in cost.
  • Other equipment needs are swim suit, goggles and swim fins (available for purchase from team if you do not already have them)
  • Orientation and Lane Assignments held May 29, 2012 and May 30, 2012 at 8:50 am and 10:00 am
  • Season is from 5/29/12 – 7/26/12
  • Practices are Tuesday through Friday
  • Two Full Hour Morning Session Options
  •       8:50 – 9:50 a.m.  or   10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

NOTE ON COMMUNITY EVENTS BROCHURE and CHANGES FROM LAST SEASON:  The Community Events Brochure listed the season as ending June 26, 2012, which was a typo.  Our season actually ends July 26, with a championship meet for those wishing to attend held over two days July 27 and July 28.  Please forgive the typo.  We do not currently have a one-month option.  To improve our program we also changed the session times slightly to 8:50 to 9:50 am (from 8:30 to 9:20 am) and 10:00 to 11:00 am (instead of 9:30 to 10:20 am).  This was done at the urging of our coaches who need at least a full hour without the coming and going transition that happens betweens sessions to better develop and improve the swimmers technique and endurance.  This also avoids overlap with our year-round team who practices earlier.  The change to Tues through Friday practice (instead of Monday through Thursday) was also made at the urging of our coaches to help the swimmers maintain continuity with their coaching up through the Saturday swim meets.  We also increased fees by $5 to $130 to cover additional coaching costs and the swim meet costs, including fees we pay for the championship swim meet.  Each additional swimmer receives a $10 discount, reducing costs for them to $120 for the two month season.  We believe these changes will make our program even better than last year, and help the swimmers improve even more than they did last year.
